Moxa introduced their newly launched MGate 5103 and MGate 5111 industrial protocol gateways that enable fast and easy protocol conversions between Modbus devices and PROFINET/PROFIBUS-based SCADA systems and PLCs. These stand-alone protocol gateways also allow a distributed network architecture that maximizes flexibility and scalability.
In addition, they also extend the lifetime of field devices, consequently reducing costs. With an all-in-one design, these gateways convert a variety of protocols, such as Modbus RTU/ASCII/ TCP to PROFINET or PROFIBUS. Furthermore, the MGate 5103 and 5111 also help integrate EtherNet/IP PLCs into PROFINET or PROFIBUS systems.

Automating with PROFINET: Industrial Communication Based on Industrial Ethernet
PROFINET is the first integrated Industrial Ethernet Standard for automation, and utilizes the advantages of Ethernet and TCP/IP for open communication from the corporate management level to the process itself.
PROFINET CBA divides distributed, complex applications into autonomous units of manageable size. Existing fieldbuses such as PROFIBUS and AS-Interface can be integrated using so-called proxies. This permits separate and cross-vendor development, testing and commissioning of individual plant sections prior to the integration of the solution as a whole.
